About Alex John

Alex John is a fantastic and sought after male vocalist from the South Wales valleys. Alex started singing at a very young age and competed and won a competition against adults in Tenerefe at the age of just 6 years old. A few years later at the age of 12 Alex joined the Maesteg Children’s Choir and performed in many concerts and in five of their annual shows. During his time with the choir, Alex gained confidence in singing as part of a group and also with singing alone. Between the ages of 14 and 16, he entered a number of talent shows at Trecco Bay. In 2003 he made it to the final and won 3rd Prize.

The Journey Begins

After a few years of not singing, he was approached and was advised to visit an “open mic night” where he could possibly find an agent. Alex performed in front of a room full of other performers and a number of agencies. Shortly after this Alex auditioned for a brand new talent show “Bridgend’s Got Talent”. After getting to the final, he performed a Spanish version of “You Raise Me Up” (Por ti Sere) that was once sang by Paul Potts and claimed 3rd Prize. Alex once again applied for Bridgend’s Got Talent and performed Somebody to Love and made it to the final once again. Towards the end of 2009 Alex entered a competition called the Welsh Factor. He made it through the heat, quarter final, semi final and made it to the final. From the Welsh Factor, Alex was invited to join Viva! a production show, alongside Ali Delgado, Michael Platt and Lauren Bennett. The show ran around a few of the clubs around the South Wales area and they were fortunate to have a booking at MOD St. Athan. In August / September 2010 Alex decided to enter “Owen Money’s Search for a Star” at the Hi-Tide in Porthcawl and made it to the final. From this competition, Alex is then went on to recording at the BBC, performing on a pilot of a new talent show on BBC Radio Wales.

The present and the future

In 2016, Alex decided to join Bois Goytrehen a’r Cylch Male Voice Choir. This was to gain extra experience in singing with a group, to extend his repertoire and to see more venues across the world in a more social capacity. In May 2017, Alex was approached by Owen Money who seemed impressed with his vocal range and his ability to sing in falsetto. He was asked to join Owen Money and the Travelling Wrinkleys in their Jukebox Heroes II tour of Wales as the voice of Frankie Valli, which run in Spring 2018. Alex is renowned for having a fantastic falsetto voice that alows him to perform songs such as Mika’s “Grace Kelly”, “Sherry” by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness.

In 2022 Alex will be continuing on tour with Owen Money once again with his Jukebox Heroes 3 tour which was postponed from 2020 due to COVID-19.
